Breast Cancer Care in Asia: How APRIL Supports You

Did you know that October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month? Around the world, charities use this month to raise awareness and funding for breast cancer research. Unfortunately, breast cancer is becoming a growing concern for women (and men) worldwide, and this is also the case in Asia.

Breast Cancer Care in Asia: How APRIL Supports You

According to the Hong Kong Breast Cancer Foundation, breast cancer has become the most common type of cancer affecting women in the territory since 1994. On average, about 13 women are diagnosed with breast cancer every day in Hong Kong. In Singapore, the situation is similarly concerning—almost 1 in 16 women in Singapore will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime, according to Gleneagles Hospital.

For women over 40, breast cancer screening is especially crucial. If you fall into this high-risk category, it’s very important to make sure your health insurance plan fully covers you in the event of this disease, since the majority of cases occur among the women-over-40 group.

At APRIL International, we’re here to support you with breast cancer prevention and treatment. Our MyHEALTH insurance plans, designed especially for expats in Asia, will ensure you’re covered for the care you need.

Health Insurance for Breast Cancer Prevention

Early detection is the best way to avoid any major illness, including breast cancer. To protect yourself, you’ll need to get regular preventative screenings.

Our MyHEALTH Hong Kong and MyHEALTH Singapore plans include an “adult preventative screening” benefit that covers one mammography per year for women aged 40+. This benefit is included in our Hospital & Surgery module, meaning you can use it even without buying an outpatient package.

Here’s what’s covered under this benefit:

  • Mammography for women aged 40 years and above: MyHEALTH Hong Kong: US $250 / MyHEALTH Singapore: SG $300

  • Pap test for women aged 19 and above: Panel network providers only.

Outside of Hong Kong and Singapore, our other MyHEALTH Asia plans also cover mammography (under the “medical checkup” benefit) when you buy an outpatient package.

Health Insurance in Asia for Breast Cancer Treatment

If you do happen to get breast cancer, our plans will be there for you. When breast cancer is diagnosed by your doctor, MyHEALTH will cover all treatment costs. Specialist consultations, diagnostic scans and tests, medication, chemotherapy, and radiotherapy will be fully covered under your Hospital & Surgery module.

And because dealing with a medical situation is never easy, our team is there to support you every step of the way. We can help you find the right medical providers and settle your costs directly with the facility, so you can rest assured that your treatment will be taken care of.

However, keep in mind that it’s essential to purchase your health insurance cover before you get sick, so you can get the full protection you deserve in cases of major illness. Don’t put off getting the coverage you need for your peace of mind.
